Asclepias syriaca / Common MIlkweed
Asclepias syriaca / Common MIlkweed
A vigorous and colony-forming native perennial that commonly grows wild in fields, open woods, and disturbed areas. Pollinators love Milkweed nectar, and Monarch butterfly caterpillars in particular live their entire larval stage amongst these juicy leaves! The genus Asclepias is said to be named for the Greek god of medicine, Asklepios, and we agree that Milkweeds are medicine for both landscapes and pollinator communities!
