Castanea dentata x mollissima / Dunstan Chestnut

Chestnut blight is a fungus that killed almost every American chestnut since it was discovered in 1904. The mission to restore the American chestnut to its former glory is a huge endeavor, with research being done by many colleges and non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast. The tree used to be an important source of wood due to its straight form and rot-resistance. It also produces delicious, sweet nuts. No wonder there’s so much effort to bring them back! 

Dunstan Chestnuts are hybrids between American and Chinese Chestnuts. They are blight resistant and produce delicious fruit. Plant 2 for pollination.
