Cornus kousa / Kousa Dogwood
Couldn't load pickup availability
When you see Dogwood trees bloom in May, you're likely seeing one of two species: our native Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) or the non-native Kousa dogwood (Cornus kousa). While we usually recommend planting native species, Kousa dogwood has something that our native species lacks - edible fruit! The large, pink, round fruit is fleshy and mild but sweet.
Kousa dogwood is a small tree, reaching a mature size of 20 to 30 feet. It is resistant to the common diseases that affect our native dogwoods and is generally adaptable. Optimal conditions for Kousa dogwood are full sun and average, light soil.
