Hydrastis canadensis / Goldenseal
Couldn't load pickup availability
Overharvesting of edible and medicinal native plants is a common issue, and this is especially apparent with Goldenseal, whose forest population has diminished partially for that reason. If you are interested in harvesting Goldenseal for medicinal purposes, consider growing it in your own landscape. This woodland species has a rhizomatous growth habit, forming short (under 1 foot tall) patchy populations over time, from which you can harvest sustainably! Grows best in rich, mesic soil with partial to full shade.
