Though Japanese pachysandra is a popular shade-tolerant groundcover, there is actually a native pachysandra that fulfills the same role and is just as beautiful! Known as Allegheny spurge, this low growing native grows 1 to 2 feet high and slowly spreads to form a dense colony of light green foliage. Leaves are semi-evergreen and will typically fade away by mid-winter. Drought tolerant once established.
