Podophyllum peltatum / Mayapple

Mayapple is a plant that demands you come down to its height on the ground to appreciate its flower. Fan like leaves reach around a foot tall and form an umbrella over a delicate, white flower that resembles those of an apple tree, hence the common name. Mayapple spreads via rhizomes, eventually forming a colony. As a spring ephemeral, the plant will go dormant as the summer heat intensifies.
