A perennial shrub native to Central America, Tree Spinach or Chaya is grown in our climate as a small indoor tree. They can grow quite tall but are often pruned back for better access to the leaves. Their leaves are a traditional food source in hotter climates where they are cooked like other leafy greens, but it is advised not to eat them raw. Up to 50% of the leaves can be harvested at a time and more plants can be propagated via stem cuttings!
