Acer pensylvanicum / Striped Maple

Also known as the Goosefoot Maple, the Striped Maple is a shrubby tree identifiable by its three-pronged leaves and vertical white stripes running down its smooth green-brown bark. It is an upland species preferring medium moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is  a wonderful understory tree, growing from 15 to 25 feet with a 12 to 20 foot spread. It does not tolerate full sun. In spring, it makes a show of yellow blooms. In autumn, its leaves turn a golden yellow. Zone 3 to 7.
