Cercis canadensis / Eastern Redbud

Cercis canadensis is one of those trees that just takes your breath away. The soft pink, edible pea-like flowers emerge before the leaves in early spring and it is absolutely stunning. Even better, it is a relatively low maintenance tree that thrives in many conditions. It does best in part shade and average - moist soil, but can tolerate full sun - shade and dry soil conditions as well. This small tree grows around 15-30' and 15-20' wide.

Host plant for Callophrys henrici and Fasciata cercerisella. Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinators. Fixes nitrogen in the soil.
