Alnus serrulata / Smooth Alder

Smooth Alder is an excellent restoration plant for streambank stabilization; growing in dense thickets along the waters edge up to about 15' tall. You may also find it growing in well drained upland areas. It does best in full sun - part shade, but will also tolerate more dense shade. Fall color is showy and turns yellow to red. Has nitrogen fixing qualities.
