Amelanchier canadensis / Canadian Serviceberry

Amelanchier canadensis is a large, multistem shrub with an arching, elegant crown reaching heights of 15-30'. They begin with an abundance of star-shaped white flowers in the spring followed by delicious red-purple berries that ripen early in the summer. Easy to grow in full sun - part shade and average - moist soils, though it can easily adapt to other sites. Here in the Hudson Valley, Canadian Serviceberry is often called Shadblow Serviceberry or "Shad bush" because it flowers during the Hudson River Shad Runs.

Loved by birds, bees, and pollinators for food and shelter. Salt and deer tolerant.
