Andropogon gerardii / Big Bluestem

Some of our Big Bluestem are growing 6 feet tall in their small pots here in our Garden Center. Do you have native ornamental grasses in your landscape? They’re not always the first plants that come to mind when designing your garden. But they provide great habitat for birds and insects and create a lot of biomass. Birds love to nest in stands of Big Bluestem. Ranchers refer to it as “ice cream for cows” because of how much the cows love it. Plant it in full sun in dry to medium soil. Grows 4 to 6 feet tall with a 2 to 3 foot spread.
