Anemone virginiana / Tall Thimbleweed

Anemone virginiana is a Spring-blooming herbaceous perennial native to the Central and Eastern United States. The common name refers to the thimble-like shape of the stamen cluster of the flower. Flowers in April and May when nectar is in high-demand. Grows about 2 feet tall with a 1 to 1.5 foot spread. Plant in full sun to part shade in dry to medium soils.
