If you’re looking for a beautiful evergreen ground cover, look no further than Arctostaphylus uva-ursi. Bearberry grows 6-12 inches tall with a 3 to 6 foot spread and feature broad-leaf evergreen foliage and white to pink flowers in April and May which become red berries that attract birds. A tough plant, it does well in poor, sandy soils but thrives best in acidic, well-draining, dry or medium soil with full sun to part shade. Infusions, tinctures, and vinegars of this plant are used medicinally to help soothe urinary tract problems.
