Asclepias incarnata / Swamp Milkweed

A stand of Asclepias incarnata in bloom will keep you entertained for hours as you witness an insect feeding frenzy of multiple species. Monarch butterflies are particularly attracted to the pink flowers. As the common name implies, Swamp Milkweed prefers wet to medium soils, along with full sun. Blooms in July and August. Grows 4 to 5 feet tall with a spread of 2 to 3 feet. The genus name Asclepias comes from the Greek god of medicine “Asklepios”.
