Astragalus membranaceus / Astragalus
Long revered in Chinese medicine, Astragalus is gaining popularity in the West for its supposed energy-boosting properties and as an adaptogen. This herbaceous perennial produces dangling yellow flowers in late summer and grows up to 4 feet tall. Plant astragalus in full sun to part shade and dry, well-drained soil. Harvest roots when they're 4 to 6 years old.
