Calycanthus floridus / Carolina Allspice

Calycanthus floridus, also known as Sweetshrub, is a deciduous shrub native to the Eastern United States. The most notable trait of Carolina Allspice is that it does well in the shade, and actually grows larger in shaded spots - a plus for many of our suburban landscapes. 2-inch fragrant flowers bloom in Spring and early summer. Grows 6 to 12 feet tall with a similar spread. Prefers rich loamy soil, medium to wet moisture, full sun to shade.
