Castanea dentata / American Chestnut Seedlings
Couldn't load pickup availability
Chestnut blight is a fungus that killed almost every American chestnut since it was discovered in 1904. The mission to restore the American chestnut to its former glory is a huge endeavor, with research being done by many colleges and non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast. The tree used to be an important source of wood due to its straight form and rot-resistance. It also produces delicious, sweet nuts. No wonder there’s so much effort to bring them back! These chestnut saplings are not immune but they should survive for 10 to 30 years. Grows best in full sun and acidic, moist soil. Plant two for pollination.
