Castanea mollissima / Chinese Chestnut

Chestnut blight is a fungus that killed almost every American chestnut since it was discovered in 1904. The mission to restore the American chestnut to its former glory is a huge endeavor, with research being done by many colleges and non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast. Though not native, Chinese chestnuts also have similar value for timber and nut production while also being blight resistant.
