Clethra alnifolia / Sweet Pepperbush

Clethra alnifolia is one of our favorite shrubs to design into landscapes. Fragrant white flowers bloom on upright racemes 2 to 6 inches long July to August. One of Sweet Pepperbush’s most notable qualities is that it does well in shady spots which are a common challenge for home gardeners. Prefers medium to wet acidic soils, do not let the soil dry out. Plant in full sun to part shade - tolerates full shade. Grows 3 to 8 feet tall (most commonly 4-5 feet) with a 4 to 6 foot spread.
