Comptonia peregrina / Sweet Fern
Couldn't load pickup availability
The only living member of the Comptonia genus, Comptonia peregrina is a deciduous shrub growing up to 5 feet tall with a 4 to 8 foot spread. The common name Sweet Fern is somewhat misleading as it is not a true fern. Comptonia peregrina grows well in sandy and slightly acidic soils, in full sun to part shade, and is often found among stands of pines - similar growing conditions to blueberries. Sweet Ferns fix their own nitrogen.
