Ilex opaca / 'Satyr Hill' American Holly

Ilex opaca 'Satyr Hill' is a cultivar of American Holly known for its pyramidal shape, glossy green leaves with fewer spines, and large, abundant red berries. It is more heat and drought-tolerant than other hollies, making it a robust choice for varied climates.

Both male and female are beautiful in ornamental landscapes, but do have different qualities and both are required for cultivation. To determine if 'Satyr Hill' is male or female, check for berries (female only) or observe the flower structure in spring—male flowers have prominent stamens, while female flowers may have a central green ovary and minimal stamens.
