Dryopteris marginalis / Marginal Wood Fern

We get many customers asking for plants that do well in the shade. The North American native Dryopteris marginalis / Marginal Wood Fern is one of our first recommendations for shade. Marginal Wood Fern grows 1.5 to 2 feet tall with a similar spread and prefers part shade to full shade and moist, rich, acidic soils - think of the conditions in a forest. Dryopteris martinalis is an evergreen, making it a great choice for our Hudson Valley winters, which can have long drab snow-less periods.
