Elymus canadensis / Canada Wild Rye

Ornamental grasses tend to go unnoticed or unappreciated at first. Their flowers may not be as showy as other flowering perennials. However, spend some time with them and you’ll soon be overwhelmed with their subtle beauty. You’ll love the red shoots of Elymus canadensis, and the seed heads are a reminder of the great plains ecosystem of the North American continent. Grasses provide winter interest and wildlife habitat too, sometimes looking their best in dried stands during the dormant season. Grows 2 to 5 feet high with a 2 to 3 foot spread. Plant in full sun in dry to medium soils.
