Larix laricina / Tamarack

One of our more unique trees, tamarack is an integral component of our cold, boggy environments that are more common in northern New York, especially the Adirondacks. Though it's in the Pine family, it is actually deciduous; its needle-like foliage turns a striking yellow in the fall before dropping its leaves. Plant this beautiful native somewhere acidic and moist where it won't get scorched by urban heat.
