Liatris spicata / Blazing Star

A patch of Liatris spicata is sure to be a favorite spot in your garden. Funky, tall flower stalks bloom purple in July and August attracting birds and butterflies, and the wild grass-like leaves provide interest during non-bloom times. Grows 2 to 4 feet tall with a 1 to 1.5 foot spread. Plant in full sun. Prefers fertile, medium-moist soils, but is somewhat tolerant of poor soils. Liatris spicata is the Blazing Star for moist soils. If you have drier soil conditions, choose Liatris scariosa instead.
