Lindera benzoin / Spice Bush
Couldn't load pickup availability
A powerhouse of a shrub, Lindera benzoin is known to tolerate deer browse, drought, wet soil, clay soil, heavy shade, and Black Walnut trees. Spice Bush blooms before leafing out, around March, and is therefore an important early-season food source for insects. Bright golden autumn leaves attract a lot of attention in the Fall, especially if planted in full sun. Spice Bush grows 6 to 12 feet tall with a 6 to 12 foot spread. Plant in full sun to part shade in soils of medium moisture.
