Monarda punctata / Spotted Beebalm
Monarda punctata / Spotted Beebalm
Spotted bee balm has a flower of almost artistic structure. The tiered-effect of the flower structure is reminiscent of an orchid, with artistic spots and patterns of white, green, and lilac. As with the other bee balms native to the Northeast, it is a member of the mint family and so has square stems and aromatic leaves. Spotted bee balm is short lived, so allow it to go to seed and reproduce in the garden. This tough plant thrives in sunny spots with sandy, dry to average soils and grows around 2 feet tall.
