Nyssa sylvatica / Black Gum
Black Gum Nyssa sylvatica, also known as Black Tupelo or Sour Gum, is a striking deciduous tree renowned for its brilliant fall foliage and hardy nature. Native to eastern North America Black Gum prefers full sun to partial shade. Adequate sun exposure is crucial for the development of its vibrant red, orange, and yellow autumn leaves.
When planting Black Gum, choose a location with acidic, well-drained soil. Although the tree is adaptable to various soil types, it avoids overly dry or poorly drained areas.
