Prunus persica / 'Contender' Peach

Prunus persica 'Contender' is a popular peach variety valued for its cold hardiness and ability to produce high-quality fruit, even in cooler climates. Blooms with pink flowers in spring, setting the stage for the harvest of juicy, sweet peaches by late summer.

This tree is self-pollinating, but if planting multiple plant trees they should be 12 - 15' apart to allow space for growth.

Plant the 'Contender' full sun, with at least six hours of direct light daily. It prefers well-drained, loamy soil that is neutral to slightly acidic. Ensure consistent moisture, especially during the fruiting season, by watering deeply once a week and allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Annual pruning in late winter and thinning of fruits in early summer are essential to maintain health and enhance fruit quality. Although cold-hardy, young trees may benefit from mulching and trunk wrapping for winter protection.
