Rhododendron calendulaceum / Flame Azalea

Finding any of our number of native azaleas is always a treat, though the Flame Azalea is particularly exceptional. Its scientific name refers to the bold orange to yellow color of its flower, resembling the medicinal annual Calendula. Beautiful as it is, it requires specific conditions to thrive. Moist, acidic, well-draining soil and dappled shade is its preferred environment. Planting in full sun will require consistent and thorough moisture, though you may get more blooms! Grows 4 to 8 ft tall and can spread up to 10 feet wide.
