American bladdernut is a common small tree in lowland areas throughout the eastern US. Small, bell-like flowers emerge in spring and mature into papery, bladder-shaped fruit, hence the common name. Bonus: the seed capsules are a unique addition to dried flower bouquets! Bladdernut grows up to 15 feet tall at maturity. Grow best in part to full shade in average soil.
