This member of the Asteraceae family enjoys full sun and medium to wet soils. Vernonia noveboracensis blooms in August and September and is tolerant of deer browsing and clay soils . The common name Ironweed refers to many qualities of this plant including strong red stems and rust-colored seeds. Flowers are the deepest, richest purple you’ve ever seen!
